New Delhi: The Union government has extended the tenure of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri by one more year.

Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been serving as Foreign Secretary since 2024. His current term was set to end on July 14.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension under Fundamental Rule 56(d). He will remain in the post until July 14, 2027, or until further notification.

Before taking charge as Foreign Secretary, Misri served as Deputy National Security Adviser. He has also worked as private secretary to three Prime Ministers—IK Gujral, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi—and held key assignments in Indian missions abroad.
