Portugal edged Croatia 2-1 in a dramatic World Cup 2026 Round of 32 knockout match in Toronto, Canada, booking a place in the Round of 16. The winner came deep into stoppage time through Goncalo Ramos.

The first half ended goalless as both sides played aggressively, with Croatia’s defence keeping Cristiano Ronaldo under close watch. Neither team managed to break through before the interval.

Croatia struck first soon after the restart when Ivan Perisic scored in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Portugal responded with sustained pressure and drew level in the 64th minute after a VAR review awarded a penalty; Ronaldo converted to make it 1-1.

With extra time looming, Rafael Leao’s delivery in the 90+4th minute was met by Ramos, who headed in to put Portugal ahead 2-1. Croatia thought they had equalised in the final seconds through Josko Gvardiol, but VAR ruled it offside and the goal was disallowed.

Portugal advanced, while Croatia exited the tournament. The report said angry Croatia supporters threw bottles onto the field after the late decision.
