The DMK has filed an interim application in the Supreme Court seeking to restrain Chief Minister Vijay, Minister Aadhav Arjuna and others from making public statements about the Karur crowd-crush incident.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2025, during a campaign meeting organised by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in Karur, where 41 people died in a stampede-like situation. The case is being investigated by the CBI under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge, and the agency has questioned Vijay and ministers Anand and Aadhav Arjuna multiple times, according to the petition.
In the plea filed by DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi, the party alleged that Minister Aadhav Arjuna has been making defamatory remarks in public that could alter the nature of the case and indirectly intimidate witnesses.
The petition also cited reports that the Chief Minister may meet victims’ families and announce financial assistance and job appointment orders. DMK argued that such steps, if taken while the probe is ongoing, could hinder the CBI’s neutral investigation, and sought directions that any such plan be submitted to the CBI and follow court-laid procedures.
DMK further requested the court to curb the spread of what it called unnecessary debates on the matter in the media and on social media. The plea is expected to come up for hearing soon.
