The Madras High Court has ordered the special court in Chennai to complete the investigation in the Gutka case involving former AIADMK minister C. Vijayabaskar within 12 weeks.

The CBI had registered the case alleging that bribes were paid to Central and State government officials to facilitate the sale of banned Gutka products. The FIR names 26 accused, including former ministers C. Vijayabaskar and B.V. Ramana.

Others named in the case include former DGP T.K. Rajendran and former Chennai Police Commissioner S. George, along with several senior officials from the Centre and the State.

The matter is being heard by a special court in Chennai. Meanwhile, some of the accused have approached the Madras High Court seeking to be discharged from the case.

When the petitions came up for hearing on Friday, the High Court issued the direction to the special court to complete the probe within the stipulated 12-week period.
