Chennai: Jananayagan, the film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate by the censor board. After edits totalling 43 seconds, the film’s approved runtime has been fixed at 180 minutes.
The movie is billed as Vijay’s last film. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol, with music composed by Anirudh. The film was earlier slated for release on January 9, but did not hit theatres due to issues related to the censor certificate.
According to the censor details, a total of 13 directives were issued to reduce violence and obscene language. The board has ordered muting of Tamil and English expletives and the inclusion of an anti-drug warning message.
Several action sequences were also modified, with reductions in blood visuals and scenes involving an ear being cut. A shot showing a leg flying during a blast has been removed.
With the certification issue now resolved, the film is expected to release within this month. Reports suggest a likely release on July 23 or July 30, with an official announcement awaited.
