WELLINGTON: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has said he is looking forward to welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that it will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to New Zealand in 40 years.
According to the schedule, Modi will travel from July 6 to 11 to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. The trip is expected to focus on areas where the countries have been working closely with India, including economic ties, trade, investment and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Modi will begin the tour in Indonesia on July 6, before heading to Australia. In Australia, he is set to take part in events in Melbourne.
He will then travel to New Zealand to conclude the visit. Luxon said India is among the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies and is important to New Zealand’s economic growth.
Luxon also referred to a free trade agreement signed between India and New Zealand in April, saying it has taken bilateral ties to the next stage and is expected to support job creation, export growth and broader economic progress.
