Mumbai continued to face intense southwest monsoon showers, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad. Officials said five people have died so far due to rain-related incidents.

Several neighbourhoods recorded heavy downpours over the past 24 hours, with more than 100 mm of rainfall reported in areas such as Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Chembur. On Saturday, persistent rain led to waterlogging in many localities, with knee-deep flooding reported in some places.

Road traffic was severely affected in low-lying areas including Dadar, Parel and Andheri. In Bandra West, water accumulation on roads brought movement to a crawl, while a building collapse was reported in the same area.

Public transport also took a hit, with suburban train services disrupted and arrivals and departures running late. Flight operations saw delays, and several flights were diverted as the weather worsened.

Following the red alert, a holiday was declared for educational institutions in Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan on July 4. The weather department has warned that heavy rain may continue, and IndiGo advised passengers to check flight status via its website or mobile app before starting their journey.
