Chennai Police have issued summons to former minister and DMK MLA Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar, asking them to appear for inquiry on July 6 in connection with a case alleging a conspiracy to topple the Thaveka government.

The case stems from allegations that Tirunavukkarasu (45) of Arumbakkam, who runs a survey firm named IPDS, along with Naresh (45) from Tiruchy and Thyagarajan (40) from Medavakkam, held talks to lure Thaveka MLAs.

Based on a complaint filed by Thaveka MLA Ilaiyaraja from the Uthangarai constituency in Krishnagiri district, the Triplicane (Thiruvallikeni) police registered a case and arrested Tirunavukkarasu and seven others.

During follow-up questioning, police said they found that Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar were linked to the alleged plan. Investigators also claimed that talks involved a deal amounting to Rs 180 crore.

Police said the summons were served at Senthil Balaji’s residence, where his father Velusamy received the notice on Friday.
