Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has intensified efforts to draw key functionaries from the AIADMK, with assurances of senior positions for those who facilitate defections, according to party sources.

The TVK leadership has reportedly begun a structured outreach, bringing in AIADMK state and district office-bearers and local body representatives on a weekly basis. Sources said induction events are being held in Chennai every Saturday.

Ahead of by-elections to seven vacant Assembly constituencies, TVK is said to be planning to bring nearly 90% of AIADMK functionaries and cadres into its party fold.

Party circles claim that a range of incentives are being promised for those who help recruit AIADMK leaders, and that such assurances have been conveyed through former ministers who have already joined TVK.

According to the same sources, these former ministers have been tasked with pulling in more AIADMK leaders and organising large-scale joining events in their respective districts. The outreach is also said to be targeting not only former ministers but several sitting MLAs as well.
