ISRO has introduced a new outreach initiative, “Space on Wheels,” a mobile space exhibition designed to take space science and technology directly to students in government, aided and private schools.
The travelling vehicle visits school campuses and offers an easy-to-understand look at India’s space efforts. Displays include five rocket models, ten satellite models, and explanations of key missions such as Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan-1, Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3, and Aditya.
Students are also briefed on how rockets are launched from Sriharikota and the purposes for which satellites and launch vehicles are deployed. At a recent exhibition held at the Government Higher Secondary School in Iduvampalayam, Tiruppur, Satish Dhawan Space Centre library officer Kumar interacted with students.
He spoke about career pathways within ISRO, noting that graduates from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) can join ISRO directly. He also outlined options through ISRO’s recruitment processes for B.Tech graduates, and roles such as technical assistant for diploma holders, technician for ITI graduates, and scientific assistant for B.Sc graduates.
The outreach also highlighted the broader future of space research—from supporting medical and research fields to improving communication and internet services via space. ISRO officials said student interest in the space sector has been rising, and stressed that government initiatives, along with support from teachers and parents, can help students turn these ambitions into reality.
