Mumbai and its suburbs have been hit by intense rainfall over the past 24 hours, with several areas recording more than 200 mm. The downpour has been particularly severe across parts of Maharashtra in recent days.

Waterlogging has been reported on many roads, leading to major traffic disruption. Suburban train operations and flight services have also been affected, forcing many residents to remain indoors.

The Maharashtra government said five people have died due to rain-related incidents—three in Mumbai and one in Thane, while a two-year-old child in Pune drowned after falling into a water-filled pit.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rain for the next two days for Mumbai and the coastal districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad. Citing the forecast, the civic body urged people to stay cautious and step out only if absolutely necessary.

According to the weather office, Mumbai recorded about 200–300 mm of rain up to Saturday morning, and a further 200–300 mm may fall from Saturday to Sunday morning.
