Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor will enter the fray in the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, the party’s state president Manoj Bharti has announced.

The Election Commission has scheduled by-elections for vacant Assembly seats in three states—Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat—on July 30. In Bihar, the Bankipur seat has fallen vacant after BJP leader Nitin Nabin, who won the constituency for a fifth term in last year’s Assembly election, was elected to the Rajya Sabha and resigned as MLA.

Kishor’s candidature comes after his party failed to win even a single seat in the previous Bihar Assembly election.

Bankipur has long been considered a BJP stronghold. While the BJP has not officially named its candidate yet, reports say the party is weighing names including Ajay Alok, Neel Ratan Ghosh and Ajit Kumar Lali.
