Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore has condemned the Union government’s announcement making a three-language curriculum mandatory in CBSE schools, saying the decision was taken without consulting state governments.

In a statement, Tagore said Tamil Nadu’s progress—socially and economically—has been supported by its two-language approach of Tamil and English, along with a state syllabus that does not place excessive pressure on students.

He alleged that the Centre is pushing Hindi and Sanskrit for narrow political reasons, and warned that such a move could harm students’ future. He described the three-language policy as “highly dangerous”, claiming it could also affect India’s unity, social justice and secular principles.

Tagore demanded that the Union government withdraw the CBSE three-language mandate and leave school education entirely to state governments.
