Washington: Norway produced a historic upset in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16, eliminating five-time champions Brazil to book a place in the quarter-finals.

The first half ended goalless, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough.

The match came alive after the break, and Norway’s star striker Erling Haaland turned the contest decisively in the closing stages. In the 79th minute, he finished a pass from Andreas Schjelderup to put Norway ahead.

Haaland struck again in the 90th minute to make it 2-0, taking his tournament tally to seven goals. Brazil pulled one back through Neymar from a penalty in stoppage time (90+10), but Norway held on for a 2-1 win, sending Brazil out at the knockout stage.
