The Madras High Court has issued an order restraining the use of a song composed by music director Ilaiyaraaja in a film featuring GV Prakash.

The dispute relates to the song “Podhuvaga En Manasu Thangam,” originally featured in the 1980 Rajinikanth-starrer Murattu Kaalai, with music by Ilaiyaraaja. Ilaiyaraaja’s side moved the court alleging the song was used without obtaining prior consent.

After hearing the matter, the judge directed that the song should not be used in GV Prakash’s film. The film, titled Happy Raj, was released on March 27.

Notably, the restraining order has been passed around three months after the film’s release. The report also points out that the Delhi High Court had recently issued an order stating Ilaiyaraaja cannot claim rights over songs from 134 films, including Annakili and 16 Vayathinile.
