CPI(M) secretary Shanmugam on Saturday alleged in Coimbatore that the DMK appeared to have attempted “horse-trading” in a bid to come to power by any means.

He said the DMK was unable to accept being out of power, and claimed this was the reason behind the alleged efforts. Shanmugam also linked the allegation to DMK leader M.K. Stalin’s recent remarks about an imminent change in government, saying the context was now becoming clearer.

Referring to the current administration, he noted that some election promises had been implemented during its two-month tenure, including measures such as the “Singappen Padai” initiative and farm loan waivers.

Shanmugam said the government’s broader economic approach would become clearer when the budget is presented. He added that issues such as labour matters, appointments, and concerns of teachers and government employees would indicate the direction the government intends to take.

He said it would be appropriate to wait until the budget to get a better sense of the path the government is likely to follow.
