Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district arrested 12 people, including five women, over allegations of attempting to convert Hindus to Christianity.

The action followed complaints from Hindu organisations in Jarwada village, which alleged that a conversion drive was being carried out. Acting on the complaint, police conducted a sudden raid in the area.

The accused were booked under the state’s anti-conversion law. During the operation, police seized three diaries, religious books and six mobile phones from them.

Police said they are also searching for two men—Rashid and Monis—who allegedly provided the venue for the conversion प्रचार meeting.
