Chief Minister Vijay on Sunday inspected the seawater desalination project under development at North Nemmeli near Mamallapuram, aimed at meeting Chennai’s drinking water needs.
The state is already implementing a desalination initiative at Nemmeli, and the North Nemmeli facility—designed to produce 400 million litres of drinking water per day—is now in its final stages.
During the visit, the Chief Minister toured the site in a battery-powered vehicle and reviewed the project’s operations, production capacity and the progress of expansion-related works with officials.
Officials said the inspection would cover two units, with the Chief Minister seeking updates on the first and second units as part of the review.
