A cordial exchange between Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin at a wedding in Chennai has triggered fresh speculation about a possible political understanding between the two parties.

The buzz comes amid a reshuffle in alliance equations after the Assembly election. According to the report, parties that earlier won as part of the DMK-led front—Congress, VCK, the two Communist parties, MDMK and the Muslim League—have since moved away and decided to back the T.V.K. government, with plans for a new alliance under T.V.K. leadership.

At present, the DMK alliance is said to include only DMDK, Makkal Needhi Maiam, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and SDPI. In recent days, the DMK has been seen showing a sudden closeness towards the NTK, the report noted.

Earlier, at a wedding in Puducherry, DMK leader M.K. Stalin and Seeman attended together and were seen seated side by side in an animated conversation. On Saturday, at the wedding of DMK headquarters secretary Thuraimugam Kaja’s family in Thiruvallur district’s Thiruverkadu, Seeman arrived minutes after Udhayanidhi.

Witnesses said Seeman walked up smiling, and Udhayanidhi rose to greet him with a hug and handshake, addressing him as “anna”. The friendly interaction, and their exchange of pleasantries about Stalin’s health and Udhayanidhi’s travel plans, energised cadres present and renewed questions on whether an alliance is being informally signalled.
