Chennai Police said former DMK minister and Coimbatore South MLA Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar failed to appear for questioning in a case alleging a conspiracy to bring down the THAWEKA government led by Chief Minister Vijay.
The case stems from allegations that a group attempted to lure THAWEKA MLAs by offering money. Police have arrested nine people, including Tirunavukkarasu from Arumbakkam, Thyagarajan from Medavakkam and Naresh from Tiruchy, in connection with the alleged plan.
Investigators have registered a case alleging that a deal of up to Rs 35 crore was discussed with THAWEKA MLA Ilaiyaraja of the Uthangarai constituency in Krishnagiri district.
During follow-up inquiries, police said they found indications that Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar were linked to the alleged plot. A lookout notice has been issued against Senthil Balaji.
Police from Triplicane had served summons asking both to appear at 10.30 am on Monday. However, with the duo said to be absconding, neither appeared before investigators, police said.
