Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Saturday said the DMK did not clearly know who its “real enemy” was in the previous election, but claimed the party has now identified its main political opponent.
Addressing a party event at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, he said the DMK’s core duty is to fight and serve for the people whether it is in power or in opposition. He added that the party has seen both victories and defeats, and that those who stand with the people are the true followers of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Udhayanidhi alleged that the AIADMK had been split into two, but said the DMK could not be “touched.” He also claimed the DMK is performing better as an opposition than the ruling party is in government.
He criticised the ruling side, saying it came to power through “reels” and is attempting to run the administration the same way, alleging that everyone from MLAs to the Chief Minister is making reels. He also rejected allegations that the DMK was trying to form a government with the AIADMK or topple the government, saying people themselves would remove a government.
Referring again to the last election, he said the party worked street by street and district by district to gather votes but “forgot to gather votes at home.” He claimed the DMK now knows its real enemy and would remove them in the next election, adding that the DMK would not be intimidated by threats and would take the ruling party’s “sofa model” mistakes to the public.
