Chennai: Arjun Moorthy, head of the BJP’s NGO wing in Tamil Nadu, has written a letter to Annamalai, leader of the “We The Leaders” organisation, urging him to rein in those who claim to support him on social media.
In the letter, Moorthy said it was worrying that some admirers and opponents were turning online platforms into a battlefield of personal attacks. He criticised the trend of insulting other leaders, degrading women and using vulgar language, saying such conduct cannot represent a civilised society.
Moorthy argued that in a democracy there is no need to demean one leader to elevate another. He expressed concern that derogatory images targeting women and senior leaders, along with language that people would hesitate to read, was becoming normalised as political expression.
He called for a clear distinction between opposing an idea and attacking a person, and between criticism and humiliation. Describing the letter as more than a request, he said it was an appeal to responsibility, adding that leadership seeking change must first improve the political culture of its followers.
