A court in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has granted bail to a woman employee of a private IT company who was arrested in connection with a complaint alleging forced religious conversion of staff.
The case stems from allegations raised a few months ago that employees at a branch of a well-known private IT firm in Nashik were compelled to convert to Islam and were also subjected to sexual assault. Based on a complaint filed by an affected woman employee, Nashik police registered a case and arrested more than eight people linked to the company.
Police later arrested the company’s Human Resources manager, Nida Khan, who had been absconding, about two months after the initial arrests. Those arrested were reportedly suspended from their jobs.
Khan sought bail before the Nashik court, where the petition was heard by Additional Sessions Judge K.G. Joshi. Her counsel argued that she should be granted bail as she is pregnant, and the court allowed the request.
In the same case, the court rejected the bail plea of another accused, Danish Shaikh.
