The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition filed by the DMK seeking to restrain Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and Minister Aadhav Arjuna, among others, from making public statements about the Karur crowd-crush case.

The incident occurred on September 27, 2025, at Velusamipuram in Karur district during a campaign meeting organised by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in which 41 people died in a stampede-like situation. The case is being investigated by the CBI under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge.

According to the report, the CBI has questioned CM Vijay and ministers Anand and Aadhav Arjuna multiple times in connection with the probe.

In an interim application filed recently, DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi alleged that Minister Aadhav Arjuna has been making defamatory remarks in public that could influence the case and intimidate witnesses. The plea also cited reports that CM Vijay may meet victims’ families and announce financial assistance and job appointment orders, arguing that such steps could hinder the neutrality of the CBI investigation.

The DMK sought urgent listing before a vacation bench headed by Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah. Senior advocate Aseefa Ahmadi, appearing for the party, argued that public comments by a minister within the probe’s ambit could affect witnesses and the investigation, following which the bench listed the matter for hearing today.
