A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Thottipalayam near Tiruppur was arrested on Monday after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for processing a patta name change.
Police said the official, identified as Nasser Abdul Rahuman (40), was serving as the in-charge VAO at the Thottipalayam village administrative office. The complainant had approached the office seeking a patta name transfer.
During the transaction, a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team, which had been lying in wait, caught the VAO red-handed and seized the cash, officials said.
After preliminary inquiry, the accused was taken into custody and produced for further legal proceedings.
The arrest has drawn attention as the same office saw a similar case last month, when another VAO, Gnanasekaran, was arrested for allegedly taking Rs 4,000 to issue a legal heir certificate.
