The Tamil Nadu government has issued orders cancelling five tenders that were floated for state transport corporations during the DMK regime.
The tenders related to procurement and works such as buying new buses, purchasing various equipment, and building bodies for mini-buses. Officials said the cancellations followed the detection of rule violations in the tender process.
Among the cancelled bids is a tender to purchase 60,000 tyres for transport corporations. Tenders seeking installation of bus tracking devices (GPS) and emergency alert systems (panic buttons) have also been scrapped.
Reports indicate the tenders were cancelled due to a lack of transparency. Fresh tenders are expected to be issued soon.
