Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is witnessing internal opposition over a proposal to assign regional responsibilities to two former AIADMK ministers who recently joined the party—C. Vijayabaskar of Pudukkottai and M.R. Vijayabaskar of Karur.
Party sources said C. Vijayabaskar is being considered for a regional in-charge role covering Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. Discussions are also said to be under way to appoint M.R. Vijayabaskar as the in-charge for the Kongu region.
It is claimed that party leader Vijay has already given his approval for the move. However, the plan to hand over major responsibilities to the two leaders has triggered strong objections within TVK.
According to TVK circles, the appointments are being weighed due to the duo’s perceived financial and organisational strength. A section of administrators, including some office-bearers and district secretaries, are demanding that positions be given to those who worked for the party’s electoral efforts, and have warned of protests if the appointments go ahead—leading to a delay in any official announcement.
