VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday clarified in Chennai that his party has not exited the DMK-led alliance. He said it was the DMK side that stated VCK was not part of the alliance, and that VCK did not leave on its own.
Referring to the Assembly election outcome, he questioned how the victory of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a major party could be a matter of happiness for VCK, which had been in an alternative front. At the same time, he described TVK’s move to seek support from VCK—seen by him as a secular force, unlike parties such as the AIADMK—as a bold decision.
Thirumavalavan added that he has not made any announcement that VCK is in the TVK alliance. He said VCK would consider being part of a TVK-led alliance if such a front is firmly finalised under TVK’s leadership.
On the issue described as “horse-trading”, he said the Governor should intervene if the office has the authority to do so.
