Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has said that high-value gold and silver jewellery donated by devotees to the Ram temple is fully safe and securely stored.
Trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri made the statement after allegations surfaced about irregularities in handling temple donations. Following the complaint, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter.
Police, after reviewing surveillance camera footage, found that individuals involved in counting the donation boxes had allegedly stolen offerings. So far, eight people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Amid the developments, trust general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra resigned from their posts. Retired Indian Forest Service officer Krishna Mohan has been appointed as interim general secretary.
Giri said the donation register lists 30 kg of gold and 1,518 kg of silver items—2,926 valuable articles in total—and that all of them are accounted for and kept safely, with records being maintained properly. He appealed to devotees not to believe rumours circulating on social media.
