Canadian police have said they have not found any evidence linking Indian government agents to the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Nijjar was killed in Canada in November 2023. At the time, then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian agents were connected to the incident.
India had firmly rejected the allegation, calling it motivated. The dispute led to a strain in bilateral ties, including a reduction in the number of diplomatic officials.
The latest statement from Canadian police, indicating a lack of proof, undercuts Trudeau’s earlier claim and is expected to be closely watched in the context of India–Canada relations.
