Reports suggest that a steady stream of functionaries from the DMK are gravitating towards the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), even as the party’s top leadership watches the trend with concern.
After the Assembly election, TVK formed the government under Chief Minister Vijay. Since then, several leaders from other parties—especially former ministers and state-level office-bearers from the AIADMK—have reportedly switched to TVK.
The report also claims that while some DMK office-bearers holding key posts have not formally quit, they have stepped back from party work. At the same time, district, city and ward-level functionaries are said to be joining TVK in numbers.
In Chennai West district, the report says around 300 people—including Aayiram Vilakku area deputy secretary Ravi, district representative Samuel and women’s wing functionary Sowmya—joined TVK. It further mentions that DMK literary wing functionary and former MLA Kalairajan, Tiruvallur West district deputy secretary Kumaran, and Sandeep, son of former Union minister Jagathrakshakan, have also joined.
Amid talk that more DMK-linked figures and even a former minister from Kanyakumari district may switch sides, opposition leader and DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi is said to have instructed district secretaries and youth wing functionaries to try to prevent further defections.
