Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Arun Raj on Tuesday said a case has been registered against colleges and doctors allegedly involved in a kidney theft racket.
The incident, reported last year, had shocked residents in parts of Namakkal district including Pallipalayam, Kumarapalayam and Tiruchengode, where weaving wage workers were targeted. Several people were arrested in connection with the case, even as controversy grew over alleged links to influential individuals.
Arun Raj said the present TVK government has begun a detailed probe into the episode. He had earlier warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved, even if they were former ministers.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on July 8, the minister said the case has now been filed in the Namakkal court against the colleges and doctors connected to the racket.
