Chennai: The Vanniyar Sangam has issued a warning to Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss against moving closer to TVK, saying it could damage the party’s support among Vanniyar voters.

The caution comes amid claims that TVK is seeking to strengthen its position by engaging with PMK, as parties including the Communists—who support Chief Minister Vijay’s government—are said to be creating pressure that the ruling side is trying to manage.

In this backdrop, Anbumani recently met Minister Anand to discuss irrigation-related projects. Following the meeting, there has been talk of warming ties between TVK and PMK.

A Vanniyar Sangam functionary said that even though the AIADMK-led alliance suffered a heavy defeat in the Assembly election, PMK still won four seats, and that any closeness with Chief Minister Vijay could draw PMK cadres and supporters towards him.

The functionary further alleged that TVK is targeting Vanniyar votes in the same way it is said to be focusing on minority and Scheduled Caste votes, and urged Anbumani to remember PMK founder Ramadoss’ earlier warning about preventing the community’s vote base from shifting away during alliance moves.
