India’s Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday assured that the Central government will provide all necessary assistance to people affected by the landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district.
The landslide occurred at the Kalladi tunnel construction site in Meppadi grama panchayat. Five people were reported dead, while search operations to trace those missing continued for a second day.
Kerala Chief Minister Satheesan visited the affected areas and reviewed the situation on the ground.
Amit Shah later spoke to the Chief Minister over the phone to take stock of the impact. He praised the Kerala government’s immediate preventive and rescue measures.
The Home Minister also urged a high-level inquiry into the incident and reiterated that the Centre would extend all support required for Kerala.
