AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has told party functionaries that there is no use continuing to talk about those who betrayed the party, and stressed that organisational changes are under way.

Palaniswami has been holding district-wise consultations on steps needed after the Assembly election defeat, and to prepare for upcoming bypolls and local body elections. As part of this exercise, he met Trichy district office-bearers at the party headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai.

During the meeting, some functionaries reportedly said the party lost in Trichy due to strong DMK dominance and a lack of support from allies. Palaniswami countered by pointing to the party’s win in Lalgudi, saying a stronger campaign could have delivered better results elsewhere too.

When a participant raised concerns about “traitors” within the district set-up, including former minister C. Vijayabaskar, Palaniswami said dwelling on such issues would not help. He said new district secretaries have already been appointed and that office-bearers will be named at all levels.

He urged cadres to remain united and focus on election work, expressing confidence of victory in the Trichy East bypoll. He also asked the party to begin preparations immediately for the local body elections.
