Chennai: V. The Leaders founder Annamalai has said the Tamil Nadu Health Minister is yet to respond to key questions on the reported loss of medical seats linked to three private medical colleges receiving deemed university status.
In a statement, Annamalai noted that the minister has now echoed the same concerns earlier raised about the impact on students, and welcomed the state government’s announcement that it would approach the court.
However, he said the minister has not explained why necessary action was not taken within 60 days as required under University Grants Commission rules, especially when the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University reportedly did not issue a No Objection Certificate.
Annamalai asked who is accountable for the administrative lapse, which officials failed in their duties, and whether it was negligence or a deliberate error influenced by pressure. He said filing a case alone is not enough and called for a full inquiry and strict action against those responsible.
He claimed the lapse has affected 650 medical seats under the state quota, and said students from government schools aspiring for medical education under the 7.5% internal reservation are directly impacted.
