India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out a flight test of the upgraded Pinaka long-range guided rocket at Chandipur in Odisha.

Pinaka rockets are already in service and are designed to engage targets at varying ranges. DRDO has been working on continuous upgrades to the Pinaka rocket system to strengthen the Army’s artillery capabilities.

The latest trial was conducted at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur. During the test, the rocket executed all planned manoeuvres and followed its pre-calculated trajectory with precision.

DRDO said the rocket accurately struck a target located 60 km away. The launch was carried out from the Pinaka rocket launcher currently used by the Army.

The successful test also demonstrated that Pinaka rockets with different range capabilities can be operated from the same launcher platform.
