Three former AIADMK MLAs who resigned their Assembly seats met Speaker Prabhakar in Chennai on Wednesday and presented their explanation regarding the resignations.

The development follows the recent Assembly election results, after which four AIADMK-backed winners—Jeyakumar (Perundurai), Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam), Sathyabama (Dharapuram) and Isakki Subbiah (Ambasamudram)—submitted resignations. During an Assembly vote, the four had voted in favour of the Vijay government.

The Speaker had earlier received their written submissions and accepted the resignations. However, AIADMK has moved the Madras High Court opposing the resignations and also lodged a complaint with the Speaker seeking action under anti-defection provisions for allegedly violating the party whip.

Based on the AIADMK complaint, the Speaker had announced that proceedings were being initiated and had sought explanations from the members. In this backdrop, three of the resigned MLAs met him in person today, while Isakki Muthu did not attend.
