Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the “Make in India” initiative has grown into a global brand over the past 12 years, with Indian-made mobile phones and electronic products reaching markets worldwide. He made the remarks while addressing members of the Indian diaspora in Melbourne during his visit to Australia.
Beginning his speech by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, Modi thanked Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for joining the event. He said the India–Australia relationship has reached new heights, and credited the Indian community for playing a key role in strengthening ties.
Modi also spoke about the cultural presence of Indians in and around Melbourne, referring to areas popularly described as “Little India” or “Mini India.” He praised the community’s contribution to Australia’s growth and highlighted how Indian traditions and food culture continue to thrive abroad.
Touching on India’s development goals, the Prime Minister said India aims to become one of the world’s top three economies. He referred to India’s preparations for the Gaganyaan mission, work towards a national space station, and said India is now the world’s second-largest 5G market while moving quickly towards Made-in-India 6G technology.
He also cited infrastructure expansion, saying metro rail networks have doubled in the last 12 years, with about 1.25 crore passengers using metro services daily, making India the country with the third-largest metro network. He mentioned the expansion of Namo Bharat and Vande Bharat train services as part of faster rail connectivity.
