Wellington: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to New Zealand, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has welcomed the India–New Zealand free trade agreement, expressing confidence that bilateral commerce will expand.

Modi, who recently concluded a trip to Indonesia and is currently touring Australia, is set to travel to New Zealand next. The visit is being described as the first official trip by an Indian prime minister to New Zealand in the past 40 years.

In a post on X, Luxon said the trade agreement with India would significantly strengthen New Zealand’s trade prospects.

He added that 57% of the goods New Zealand exports to India would be free of tariffs from the very first day under the agreement.
