Chennai: School Education Minister Rajmohan said the deterioration in Tamil Nadu’s law and order situation was not something that emerged in the last 50 days, but was the result of developments over the past five years.

Speaking to reporters, he said inspections by ministers and MLAs in government schools and government institutions have long been a practice. He maintained that Industries Minister Keerthana did not violate any convention by visiting and inspecting a government school.

Rajmohan also urged that Keerthana’s interaction with a student during the visit should not be misconstrued. He noted that the minister, born to a differently-abled parent and educated in Tamil medium before gaining English proficiency, spoke to the student in an “elder sister” role.

On alliance politics, Rajmohan said the party views its partners as friends and would not place pressure on alliance leaders or treat them as subordinate. He added that VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan’s remarks about continuing friendship with the DMK were being seen as an expression of democracy.
