Chennai police have begun questioning two doctors as part of an expanding investigation into a case involving alleged bargaining phone calls made to Thaweka MLA Ilaiyaraja of Uthangarai constituency in Krishnagiri district.

According to the complaint, the MLA said certain individuals contacted him over the phone and attempted to persuade him—through inducements—to vote against the Speaker.

Based on the complaint, Triplicane police in Chennai registered a case and arrested eight people, including Arumbakkam-based YouTuber Thirunavukkarasu, Tiruchirappalli resident Naresh and Medavakkam resident Thiyagarajan. They have been remanded to judicial custody.

In the same case, former DMK minister Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar have been granted anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, police have taken five key accused into custody for interrogation, and the inquiry has widened based on their statements.

As part of the follow-up, police are questioning Tiruppur-based doctor Rajasekar and Namakkal-based Ramesh Kumar. A look-out notice has also been issued against a Singapore-based individual, Lakshman Perumal, who is said to have spoken from Singapore with persons allegedly involved in a plot to topple the Thaweka government.
