MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday said he was taken aback by reports that VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan had called for DMK and TVK to come together as a single front at the all-India level.

Speaking to reporters in Sankarankovil, Vaiko reiterated that the MDMK would continue in the DMK-led alliance. Referring to the reported statement, he asked how the “North Pole and South Pole” could be united.

Vaiko said he had reacted strongly because the idea of being in the DMK alliance while also seeking a share in the Union Cabinet sounded surprising to him. He added that his earlier comment was not intended to hurt Thirumavalavan.

Stating that he had supported Thirumavalavan’s political growth for years and would continue to do so, Vaiko said he was withdrawing the remark and expressing regret if it had caused hurt.
