Jaipur police have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Ayushi, for allegedly hiring a contract gang to kill her mother, Neeraj Sharma (45), in a plot linked to family property and a compassionate government job.
According to investigators, Neeraj, a court clerk, was returning home on a moped after dropping her son at a coaching centre on July 3 when a Scorpio SUV rammed into her at high speed and fled. She was thrown about 100 feet and died on the spot.
CCTV footage and subsequent inquiry led police to conclude it was not an accident but a planned murder. The probe found that after Neeraj’s husband died last year, Ayushi sought the court clerk post on compassionate grounds, but Neeraj took up the job due to family circumstances, leaving Ayushi dissatisfied.
Police said disputes over division of family property had continued for the past two years. Investigators allege Ayushi, with the help of her uncle Mohan Swaroop and other relatives, paid around Rs 7 lakh to a Bharatpur-based contract gang, which allegedly tracked Neeraj’s routine for a month and carried out the fatal hit.
Seven accused, including Ayushi, Mohan Swaroop and members of the contract gang, have been arrested. Police said another relative, Balram, is on the run and is being searched for.
