School Education Minister Rajmohan has directed that no political party-related activities should take place inside schools, warning that strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the ban.
Speaking to reporters after an event in Chennai, the minister said the Madras High Court has asked the government to respond regarding celebrations of Chief Minister Vijay’s birthday in schools. He said the government would submit its reply and face the matter legally.
Rajmohan also cautioned that members of any political party, including TVK, should avoid entering school premises with party flags or symbols. He reiterated that party-linked activities are prohibited in schools and that enforcement would be firm.
On the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), he said feedback had emerged that the question paper was difficult. He added that details have been sought from officials, including how question papers were prepared in earlier exams, and that the matter would be reviewed.
The minister further said that while 207 government schools were closed during the DMK regime, he has instructed that schools should not be shut and that admission timelines can be extended even if enrolment is low. He also spoke about an inquiry into a complaint in Chennai involving a menstruating student, saying teachers did not make the student stand outside and that it was a communication issue, and added that private schools should not withhold transfer certificates for reasons such as fee arrears.
