Thoothukudi district’s Srivaikuntam constituency MLA Saravanan (Tavaka) has again come into the spotlight after a video from his inspection at a Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) wholesale godown in Pudhukudi began circulating widely on social media.

According to the footage, the MLA visited the facility with a group recording on mobile phones and questioned officials about the arrival of essential commodities and the available stock. During the inspection, he noticed rice and other essentials being loaded onto a lorry and decided to check the vehicle.

He observed that the registration numbers displayed at the front and rear of the lorry appeared to have been erased. When he asked the driver for an explanation, the driver said he was unaware. The MLA also pointed to the poor condition of the tyres and raised doubts about the vehicle’s legal documents, fitness certificate and insurance.

Saravanan then contacted the contractor firm over the phone and questioned the absence of a rear-view mirror and the vehicle’s condition, stressing the need to avoid delays while transporting goods. The person on the other end, identified as contractor manager Muthuraj, reportedly responded sharply, asking who the MLA was to question them and telling him not to speak about the contract.

The MLA, appearing shocked, said he was live and that media were present, and added that he had sent the lorry details to the Regional Transport Officer. The manager then suggested checking the chassis number online and ended the call. The clip has since triggered fresh debate online.
