Tamil Nadu’s tourism sector has touched a new high, with a surge in visitor numbers during the first five months of the year. The state continues to position itself as a hub of art, culture and spirituality.
Officials said that between January and May, a total of 190.6 million tourists visited Tamil Nadu. This includes 189.4 million domestic visitors and 1.133 million international visitors.
The rise has been attributed to easier online booking options for tourist destinations and special package tours operated on weekends by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). These initiatives have drawn interest from both domestic and foreign travellers.
Tourism officials added that if the current pace continues, the state could cross the 400 million visitor mark by December, setting a new record.
On average, Tamil Nadu is receiving about 1.25 million visitors per day from within India and abroad. The state also sees an average of around 226,000 international visitors each month, according to the department.
