Anti-Corruption officials in Uttar Pradesh have seized assets worth about Rs 35 crore from Lalit Kumar, a former Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) who served in Agra, following allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered and a search was conducted recently at his residence in Lucknow. During the operation, officials recovered Rs 1.62 crore in cash, 13 kg of gold jewellery and 9 kg of silver articles.
The seized cash and valuables were estimated to be worth around Rs 20 crore. Investigators said the items were found concealed in bags kept in different parts of the house.
In addition, documents related to properties located in Lucknow, Barabanki and Raebareli districts were taken into custody. The value of these properties was estimated at about Rs 13 crore.
Officials said the total value of assets traced in the case stands at roughly Rs 35 crore, and further questioning of Lalit Kumar is under way.
