Karur: Chief Minister Vijay on Thursday handed over appointment orders to 31 members from the families of those who died in the Karur crowd crush.

The incident occurred on September 27 last year at a T.Ve.K. campaign meeting in Velusamipuram, Karur, where 41 people lost their lives after being caught in a crowd surge. The distribution of compassionate appointments was held at the Karur Collectorate.

The beneficiaries have been placed on compassionate grounds in departments including Revenue, Rural Development, Police, Registration, Town Panchayat, Social Justice and School Education.

Ministers Aadhav Arjuna, Sengottaiyan and Vijayalakshmi, Congress MP Jothimani, Chief Secretary Saikumar, and District Collector Muthukumaran were among those who attended the event.

Officials said the Chief Minister appeared emotional while issuing the orders. He also spoke to five families who said they did not want government jobs, and asked them to seek any assistance they may need without hesitation.
