Officials conducted a field inspection into an EVR (E.V. Ramasamy) statue reportedly installed on land belonging to the Brahmasirakkandeeswarar temple at Thirukandiyur in Thanjavur district.
The inspection was carried out on July 9 by a team led by Thiruvaiyaru Tahsildar Premkumar, after a news report highlighted allegations that the statue had been erected on the temple’s land without permission.
According to the complaint, the temple is around 1,300 years old. Hindu Tamilar Katchi leader Rama Ravikkumar had sought details under the Right to Information Act regarding approvals for the statue.
Responses cited from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department and the local body administration reportedly stated that no permission had been granted to install the EVR statue on temple land. The latest inspection was undertaken in this backdrop.
